CHNOWA BARNEMJEK / WHAT’S YOUR PROGRAM

Chnowa Barnemjek is the 1st Tunisian online platform that allows comparison of political parties’ election promises and programs.

Tool Self-Assessmet

  1. Reflect back on the objective of the tool you built: did you exceed it, or fall short? If so, why?

The initiatives we have taken are a first in Tunisia. We have far exceeded our initial expectations. For example, the political program comparator deployed by Chnowa Barnemjek in 2019 has seen the participation of more than half a million young Tunisians.

  1. What are the tools’ metrics for success and what does metric say – how well did the tool do?

We measure the success of our platforms through the number of sessions and users connected. These statistics are managed through specialized software that allows us to analyze not only the number of connections but also the user profiles. These powerful tools allow us to know that our current platforms are very successful with the community we are targeting.

  1. Were your assumptions that the tool you built would: increase participation/engagement or tackle an issue/raise awareness correct? Do you think you chose the right approach – and what would you do differently?

Within Chnowa Barnemjek, we have chosen to opt for a 100% digital approach because our objective is to target young Tunisians in order to reconcile them with politics and to allow them to better understand the political and electoral stakes in Tunisia. In view of our statistics, we consider that our objective has been achieved and we continue to work on a daily basis in order to improve our performance and to enlarge our community.

  1. What are you hearing from users? What do they enjoy in tool? What do they find challenging?

In the communication strategy that we have deployed, we have introduced gaming into politics in order to animate this world that seems too serious and boring, especially with young people. In the educational videos that we produce, we adopt a simplified language and are understandable by the greatest number and the returns are very good on this point in particular since the young Tunisians can finally understand concepts that were until now difficult to master.

  1. Did your tool deliver what you were hoping for? Are they useful for your key user audience? Are they being adopted?

After almost 4 years of activities, we are fully satisfied to see how our platforms work perfectly and especially meet an important need in Tunisia: the strengthening of analysis and critical thinking, especially among young people to build a solid and resilient democracy.

  1. What worked well through the implementation process? What areas have room for improvement?

The deployment of our platforms has gone very well and we have not had any major malfunctions. The Covid-19 crisis has even allowed us to strengthen our activities since we had bet on digital since 2019 and the pandemic has catalyzed the digital transition. In the future and with the pandemic subsiding, we hope to be able to continue to develop our activities on the digital sphere but also organize face-to-face meetings to strengthen the links with our community.
